A Physical Assessment on Communities hit by the recent Heavy Rainstorm and Flood Disasters in Kwara State

The humanitarian hazards caused by changes in weather and climate as a result of global warming cannot be overemphasized. It has continued to have a far-reaching influence on the general way of life in all countries especially the developing countries with low resilience as well as fragile ecosystems and even threaten global security through migratory pressures and resources conflict.
The effects of climate change are being felt all over through weather and hydrological extremes (floods and droughts) in the Niger River Basin and will only worsen. Countries around the Niger River basin and the West African Region are the worst hit by the effects of the disaster. This is because a very large percentage of these people are farmers and fishermen whose means of livelihood depends largely on the river. By extension, food insecurity, famine, droughts, malnutrition and inflation become the lot of the inhabitants of this region.
This then calls for immediate intervention so as to avert a humanitarian disaster, the like of which is only better imagined.
